Active People Recognisation Using Thermal and Grey Images on a Mobile Security Robot

Abstract: In this paper we present a vision-based approach to detect, track and identify people on a mobile robot in real time. While most vision systems for tracking people on mobile robots use skin color information, we present an approach using thermal images and a fast contour model together with a Particle Filter. With this method a person can be detected independently from current light conditions and in situations were no skin color is visible (the person is not close or does not face the robot). Tracking in thermal images is used as an attention system to get an estimate of the position of a person. Based on this estimate we use a pan-tilt camera to zoom to the expected face region and apply a fast face tracker in combination with face recognition to identify the person. Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks

Abstract:Today's communication techniques for mobile ad hoc networks take a connection-oriented approach. Mobile nodes need to discover routes and establish a connection before they can communicate. This strategy is not robust as it cannot adapt to frequent unpredictable topology changes due to high mobility. Constant reconnections incur significant overhead making these schemes unsuitable for applications such as voice and video. To address these issues, we explore a connectionless paradigm in this paper. We leverage technology such as GPS (global positioning system) to allow a source node to discover a grid path to the destination node. Data packets are relayed along this path toward the destination using different intermediate nodes at different times without having to first establish connections between them. The performance of this new solution is essentially unaffected by node mobility. As a result, it is suitable for a wide range of mobile applications.

Mobile Computing Location Management

Abstract: Mobile computing is a new emerging computing paradigm of the future. Data management and location management in this paradigm poses many challenging problems to the Mobile database community. In the past decade, Mobile communications have experienced an expensive growth due to recent technological advances in mobile networks and cellular telephone manufacturing. Location management is a very important problem among these challenges.

It consists of updating the location of the user, searching the location and performing search-updates. When the host changes location, an update occurs. When the host want to communicate with a mobile host whose location is unknown to the requesting host, a search occurs. A search-update occurs after a successful search, when the requesting host updates the location information corresponding to the searched mobile host. The goal of a good location management scheme should be to provide efficient searches and updates. In this paper, the different location management schemes, various search & update strategies are discussed.

Architecture, Challenges And Research Issues On Mobile Computing

Abstract: With the advent of the Internet and the plurality and variety of fancy applications it brought with it, the demand for more advanced services on cellular phones is increasingly becoming urgent. Unfortunately, so far the introduction of new enabling technologies did not succeed in boosting new services. The adoption of Internet services has shown to be more difficult due to the difference between the Internet and the mobile telecommunication system. The goal of this paper is to examine the characteristics of the mobile system and to clarify the constraints that are imposed on existing mobile services. The paper will also investigate successively the enabling technologies and the improvements they brought. Most importantly, the paper will identify their limitations and capture the fundamental requirements for future mobile service architectures namely openness, separation of service logic and content, multi-domain services, personalization, Personal Area Network (PAN)-based services and collaborative services. The paper also explains the analysis of current mobile service architecture such as voice communication, supplementary services with intelligent network, enabling services on SIM with SIM application tool kit, text services with short message service, internet services with WAP and dynamic applications on mobile phones with J2ME.

Further our paper gives information on challenges of mobile computing which includes harsh communications, connections, bandwidth and heterogeneous networks. Under research issues seamless connectivity over multiple overlays,scalable mobile processing ,wireless communications,mobility and portability are discussed.
